Monthly Goals Check-in: March and April

Well, here we are! Another month has passed, and it’s time to talk about what, exactly, we did in March.

So, let’s review!

Temperature Blanket: The squares are finally done!

And, y’all. I made a mistake.

I laid the squares out on my bed for maximum effect for this photoshoot, and … Well, you can see for yourself. I sleep on a full-sized mattress. That’s clearly not going to be big enough for this massive blanket. I knew it was going to be big but I was in denial of just HOW big, I guess. I still have yet to decide what to do with them, but I think the jury is leaning toward making three separate blankets of four squares each.

Finish weaving in ends and sew the squares together!

Don’t forget to come hang out with me and Island Grandpa tomorrow, April 4, from 10 a.m. EST to 10 p.m. EST. We’re raising money for Knit for Food. A good cause and a good excuse to hang out and do crafty things with friends all day. Follow on Twitch to get notified when we go live: https://www.twitch.tv/katryam.

Writing & Reading

I’m still working on The Way of Kings, as usual, but did make some progress on Spinning Silver. I also started Onyx Storm, and so far I’m enjoying it. I saw a TikTok that Brandon Sanderson did where he estimated how many words he writes per year. And gang, it made me feel like a fool. It took the man less time to write The Way of Kings than it’s taking me to read it. Back to the drawing board (i.e., continuing to read the book, because it’s good, just long).

As far as writing goes, I wrote and had published a neat poem about imposter syndrome. Find it in the very first CGRH charity zine! Preorders for that are still up until April 13, so if you would like your very own hard copy of our first zine, please check that out!

April Goal

Finish Spinning Silver and make more progress on my current novel chapter. It’s getting warm outside, therefore it’s time to take the computer to the porch and catch some rays while noodling.

Homestead Report: Seeds are STARTED!

I had a bit of a rough start with my seeds at first — work got busy and I wasn’t able to check on them for a few days, and they died (oops). But there’s always time to replant, so I did that, and this latest batch is looking pretty good.

Keep these things alive! I also need to start working on my beds — I’m planning to add a trellis this year and some nice stones in the pathway in the middle.

Keep on keepin’ on

My main takeaway, after doing these posts for the last four months, is that being intentional about what I’m doing in a particular time frame (even if I don’t get all or even most of it done) is helping me organize my thoughts and put my energy in positive directions.

Til next month, readers. :)
