Liz Writes: Mid-month NaNo Update

How’s going, you ask? Absolutely splendidly, actually.

Two crochet mittens in front of a laptop. A crochet hook sits on one of the mittens, as they were just completed.

So far, I have just over 15,000 words, which NaNoWriMo.org tells me is 30 percent of the total of the 50,000-word goal. I’m smashing through some of these scenes that I had been a little too timid about before – turns out, deadlines are really motivating.

I’m also experiencing motivation in other areas of my life. Just yesterday, I did six loads of laundry, scrubbed the bathroom, cleaned mirrors, changed sheets, started a new crochet project, and went to the pet store – all before getting in my words for the day. Procrastination is a dangerous and wondrous thing.

My good friend Alex has been lovingly bullying me into my wordcount. Thus far, I’ve managed to achieve the minimum daily words about seven times out of the first 12 days -some of those days I went WAY over the minimum – and a good portion of that was thanks to Alex’s pretty cool prompts, jokes, memes, and unflagging support. He’s a real champion. Thanks, dude!

A discord message from Big Tuff Al, today at 7:28pm. The message says
